DIE PORT VAN CLEVE HOTEL IN AMSTERDAM
Project: HotelÂ
Location:Â Amsterdam
One of the oldest hotels in heart of Amsterdam, Die Port van Cleve hotel based in monumental building overlooking the Dam square was in need of a modern yet classic spirit. The reconstruction of this hotel made Katarina Stupavska discover extraordinary historical events that took place in this building. The history dates back to 1592 when it hosted the first brewery and later startup of Heineken & CO. After Die Port van Cleve changed into the hotel, it was an innovative place with the first electric lamps in Amsterdam. An unforgettable spectacle, which even Dutch Queen couldn’t miss. The most distinguished Dutch writers, artists and philosophers of the 20th century, used to create and debate under this roof. The importance of these historical events became the source of Katarina's inspiration as she created the posters telling the stories from past to present time. Through her extensive research, this aesthetic timeline on wallpaper informs the visitors about the past of their hotel.
